Sump Pumps & Flood Prevention

Sump pump installation, battery backups, and check-ups that keep Colorado spring melt out of your basement.

In Colorado, the difference between a dry basement and a $30,000 flood claim is usually one pump that either works or doesn't during the spring melt. We install, replace, and service primary sump pumps, and we strongly recommend battery backup systems — because the same storms that flood basements also knock out power.

A Summit sump installation includes a properly sized pump (bigger is not always better — short-cycling kills pumps), a sealed lid to stop radon and humidity, a check valve, and a discharge line routed to code. We test the float, the backup, and the alarm before we leave, and we show you how to test them yourself.

Already have a pump? Our annual check-up service tests the full system, cleans the pit, and replaces worn floats before the season that matters. Most failed pumps we replace showed warning signs a year earlier.

  • Primary and battery-backup pump systems
  • Correct sizing to prevent short-cycling
  • Sealed lids and code-compliant discharge
  • Wi-Fi alarms that text you before flooding
  • Annual check-up service available
  • Emergency replacement during storm season

Sump Pumps & Flood Prevention FAQs

Do I really need a battery backup?

If your basement is finished or you store anything valuable down there, yes. Power outages and heavy storms travel together, and a primary-only pump protects you exactly until the moment you need it most. Quality backups run 6–8 hours of continuous pumping.

How long does a sump pump last?

About 7–10 years for a quality primary pump. If yours is past 7, an annual test is essential — and if it's short-cycling, running constantly, or making grinding noises, have it looked at before the spring melt, not after.
